Gene Fullmer recently left this world at the age of 84. I can remember watching some of his fights as a boy vs Carmen Basilio and Ray Robinson back in the days of black & white TV. Tough and rugged as they came back in that era, but a very humble and down to earth person - at least when he was out of the ring, or so I've been told.

You have been told that truth. He was humble and gracious.

I too remember seeing Gene Fullmer on the Friday Night Fights show
that was shown on TV in the 50's. His win over Sugar Ray Robinson to
capture the middleweight title was the epitome of his boxing style.

Aside from his boxing career, Fullmer operated a mink-breeding ranch
in Utah. He also joined his brothers — Don, a middleweight, and Jay, a
lightweight and welterweight — in operating a boxing gym.
