On paper this looked to be a good fight. Well it was for 3 rounds but
Alvarez destroyed Kirkland knocking him down and then out in the 3rd.
If Alvarez had fought like that against Mayweather he may not have
lost.

If Mayweather had fought like Kirkland he wouldn't have won a title to
begin with, but he'd also be vastly less boring to watch.

I liked Kirkland's "comeback kid" story, but I have to say in watching
his last few fights that the guy is not only just about defenseless,
you have to accept the fact that he doesn't have much of a chin.
Either that, or unlike such great boxers of old as Danny "Little Red"
Lopez, his recovery ability isn't terrible.

If you're going to be a smash and thrash fighter, you have to have
quick recovery OR good defense--take your pick. Brandon Rios and
Ruslan Provodnikov don't have much defensive skills--but they can sure
take a punch.

As sensitivity to the suffering of humans begins to stink up my later
life, I get really tired of human punching bags who take 10 punches to
land one--whether they win at the end or not. I'm become much more the
fan of the sweet *science* than I have ever been.
