Direct TV? Is that like DirecTV? I have a DirecTV dish, but have
never seen them sponsor events under their own name. Perhaps I'm
confusing things?

I also have DirecTV but you may notice that broadcast is in Puerto
Rico so the name may be different there and the fight from the local
casino may actaully be carried there. I love Puerto Rico. Wish I
could afford to retire to there.

Never been there, but have listened to PR music (mostly via
"NewYoricans") for 30+ years, so I've often thought about checking it
out. I thought it was significantly cheaper to live there than in the
US.

Puerto Rico is technically in the US. If you get far away from the
major cities and live like a local, it is cheaper than just about
anywhere in the US mainland. But you give up a lot of creature
comforts and you'll need to be fluent in Spanish to do that.

If you live in or near one of the major cities, it would be just like
living in or near any major city in the mainland of the US cost wise
and comfort wise. Many English speaking Puerto Ricans and really
Spanish isn't that hard to learn. The weather there is great and the
beaches beautiful. Pretty laid back life style there. I spent
several months on a work assignment in Isle Verde. Did not want to
come back home!

I'm not good with boondocks regardless of the country, so it may not be
the place for me. Suddenly this past week we've been scratching our
heads and rubbing our chins about Havana, Matanzas, Camaguey and other
town-names I've had sung to me for even more than 30 years. The wife is
fluent in Spanish and I'm passable, fully functional in a year or so.

Just like San Francisco, OKC, Detroit or Manhattan, huh? :-) There's
still a lot of cost/comfort variables in the olde sod.

First things first--we'll have to spend a few weeks there and check it
out. I've never heard bad about San Juan or Ponce. I play PR cuatro,
and could certainly be taught a few new jibaro tunes.

My ID, "Juan Anonly" is, of course, a play on "One and only".

Closer to comparison would be New York City or San Francisco or Los
Angeles. For example, when I was there in 2006 I stayed at an Embassy
Suites hotel in San Juan. Client paid for it. It was $300 a night.
They got me into a furnished vacation rental in Isle Verde that was
around $225-250 a night.

The only thing bad I have to say about Puerto Rico is that
cockfighting is legal there.
